Christmas Ornament by Elisa Ablett

Hi Stampers,

Elisa here from the Ink Art Design Team with my last post for the year! In keeping with the season, I decided to make a funny Christmas Ornament using Katzelkraft stamps from the store - https://www.inkartdesigns.com/product-category/stamps/stamps-stamps/

Before I continue I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year.

Hopefully you will all get a chance to create and get Inky over the Christmas break, so don't forget to get your entries into the Ink Art Stamping Playground December challenge album - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.2549149125321173&type=3

Here is my step by step for those wishing to see how the ornament came together!

1. Stamp on thick mixed media white cardstock using your versafine black inkpad and quickly emboss with your black embossing powder before the ink dries. Heat set and continue stamping and embossing until you have the images you desire for your ornament.
2. I used Farm Animals and Grumpy Penguins from Katzelkraft as well as their accessories stamp set which is awesome to make your little characters come alive !
3. Once you have stamped and embossed, use markers or water colours to add colour to your images.

4.  Fussy cut your images out and add more details using a black and also a white fine tip marker from Posca or gel pen etc.

5. I found this pack of four DIY decorate baubles from Spotlight Australia and had the idea to make my own ornaments with little characters and scenes, best bargain ever at $2.50 each pack!

6. Seperate a circle ornament and cut background paper to fit the cardboard circle that goes in the middle of the ornament. Trim any over hanging edges.

7. Start putting your scenes together!

8. Let me introduce you to Snow-tex if you don't already know it, it is made by Decoart and is fabulous for 3D snow effects. Using a paint brush, add snow to the top of your first scene, to the penguins hat and the presents. Use 3D foam mounting tape behind the presents and penguin to create a shadow box effect.

9. For the second scene, I attached the sheep's hat first and used 3D foam mounting tape to give him some depth, then I cut a small length of the christmas light stickers which I bought 60% off at Spotlight, another bargain woohoo!! I wanted it to look like the sheep had the end of the lights in his teeth - pulling the lights down (being a bit naughty)
10. I used a label maker to make my quotes but you can use small alpha stamps or computer generate your own to suit.

Here are both scenes side by side ready to put the ornament together. I crumbled up a piece of recycled packaging to represent snow and turning it into a snow globe as well!!

Add a piece of ribbon to the top once you have popped the two sides together and hang on your tree.

Products used from the store:

Versafine black inkpad

That's it from me today, enjoy your Christmas and see you all in the New Year.

Holy Cluck by Elisa Ablett - Art Journal Page

Hi Crafters,

We are officially in December and I will admit to some slight panicking about not been ready for Christmas.

So while I am heavy breathing into a paper bag in the corner, read on to see how this art journal page came together.

Let's take a look at the products used from Ink Art Designs:-

and a closer look at those gorgeous Katzelkraft stamps - I cannot get over the expressions on the faces of the animals, it makes for all sorts of projects if you have the right quote or saying..

I named my duck Gerry, i can see we are going to have some great adventures with him in my art journal pages lol.  To create my stamped images I used an archival ink in black and watercolours with a small round paintbrush. I stamped a few of each image and used different colours to get to the one i loved the most.

and my potty mouthed chickens, yet to be named, but I can see they will feature in future projects as well.

I used a joggles house stencil in the background to look like a henhouse or a barn and kept to a lighter background with my paints to let the stamped images stand out. I also lightly stencilled over the top of the barn to add a bit of texture and depth.

I am usually hesitant to make lumpy and bumpy art journal pages but I had the coconut fibre and thought it would be great for the nest under the egg and also chipboard piece which in a grid pattern looks at home in a farmyard setting.

Don't be shy in adding grungy marks like scribbly writing or lines etc, it all adds to the uniqueness of your pages.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today, make sure you leave me some love and don't forget to enter into this month's challenge over on the Ink Art Designs Facebook page. We love seeing all your creations..

'Always Forgive Yourself' by Elisa Ablett - Scrapbooking Page

Hi Stamp lovers,

Elisa here again from the design team for Ink Art Designs with my latest project, this time a colourful mixed media scrapbooking page.

Featuring one of my most favourite stamp sets, Art by Marlene Bohemian Flowers and the vibrant acrylic paints by Dina Wakely all available in store today.

Products used from the store - Ink Art Designs

Dina Wakely paint colours used:
Magenta, Tangerine, Lapis, Peacock, Turquoise, white

White Gel pen

Let's take a closer look at the layout: -

To create the background, I used Dina Wakely Acrylic Paints gently sponged through the Visible Image Geometric Stencil to match my main feature which are the fussy cut flowers. I also used a craft spatula dipped in white paint to make white lines and marks on my background.

You may also spot some Dina Wakely Washi Tape in the background, I tore strips of the tape and added to the middle of page.

To make the flowers, I started with a blank piece of A4 white heavy weight mixed media cardstock. Then using a palette knife or even your finger, smooth all the different colours of your paint over the A4 cardstock. It doesn't matter if it looks like a toddler fingerpainted lol, it won't matter when you stamp over the top with your gorgeous stamps.

Once the paint is dry completely, stamp using a black archival ink all over the cardstock and let dry. Then fussy cut all your pieces out, while watching TV or something on Netflix, if you are like me and sometimes fussy cutting can be a bit of chore l like to sit in front of TV or in between cooking dinner etc. a bit at a time. Get creative with your fussy cutting, make circles out of flowers etc

Add that little bit extra to the background using white paint and your stamps. I smear a small bit of white paint into a larger circle onto my craft mat then dip my stamp into it, I do a few practise stamps first then re-dip it in to test how much paint goes onto my stamp. Using white doesn't detract from the lovely rainbow of colours used to create your flowers.

Once you are ready to start layering and gluing down your flowers, make sure you place your photo where you want it to sit first and work around it.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today, make sure you leave some love and before you go, make sure you get your entry into this month's challenge over on the Ink Art Designs Facebook page.

We are all out of bubblegum - Art Journal Page by Elisa Ablett

Hi stamp lovers!

Elisa here again with my latest project for Ink Art Designs, a mixed media 'cheeky penguin' art journal page!

My youngest son is in love with penguins, having completed many a school project on them and also seeing them at wildlife parks. We also love the penguins in the movie Madagascar and when I saw this stamp I knew I had to have it in my collection.  So many cheeky quotes and sayings come to mind lol.

When I positioned the penguins on my page, I wanted them to look like they were staring at the reader to sense the 'impending violence' from the penguins after their gum had run out. I think the gel printed circle in the background works well with highlighting them.

Let's take a look at the products used to complete this page.

Other products used:

Paper Artsy Paints
Circle Gel Plate
Black Soot Watercolour Ink - Colour Blast
Versafine Ink - Black
Fine Black Marker
Circle Template

To start my page, I used a 4 inch circle gel plate and Paper Artsy paints to create my sunset.
Smooth a small amount of yellow, orange and deep red over your gel plate with a small brayer until the edges of each colour have blended. Then lay a stencil down over the top and brayer a small amount of white paint through. Then lay your paper down and smooth over the top with your hands to get your print. Once dry fussy cut the circle out and using circle templates and a black marker, make grungy circles over your sunset.

Stamp and colour your penguins, then once dry fussy cut them out and put them aside until you are ready to adhere to the page.

My next step is to glue my sunset down onto my page, then go around the circle with black ink and spritz with water. Dry the black ink and now you can add your grungy stamping and stencilling.

I added some black grungy lines to make a 'horizon' and drew a cityscape free hand in the back ground to make it look like they are standing in front of a city.

Add some scribbly writing, more grungy stamping and your title and lastly your penguins!

Your art journal page is complete.
