WOW Words or Whatever Chipboard - Mixed Media Tutorial

Hi Elisa here,

Just thought I'd share the Mixed Media Tutorial I posted over on the WOW Blog back on the 26th October 2015.

http://wordsorwhatever.blogspot.com.au/2015/10/using-your-wow-products-mixed-media.html

Here is the layout I created for my blog post, as you can tell I love lots of bright colour and I must admit I have a thing for watercolours at the moment.

I fell in love with these gorgeous  WOW flower corners when I first saw them. I had the thought to use them to frame a photo in a different way and to draw attention to the photo.

I thought I might share how I created the background to the layout. I started with Summer Fresh AltaMATZ and some modelling paste which I scraped over the top of the AltaMATZ with an old credit card or rewards card.

I spread it quite thin over the centre of my layout and let it dry.

Once completely dry spray water liberally over the area you want your watercolour background and over the modelling paste. I use a heavy cardstock base (Coredinations brand) for my mixed media layouts, it can take a lot of water and not bend.

Now you can either spray directly onto your watercolour palette as I did and tip onto your page or use a paintbrush to gather some colour off your paints and add to a container with water and then tip it onto your page.

Move your page from side to side, add more colour if you like it brighter. Let your first colour dry a little and then add your other colours. Move your page around to ensure the colour spreads evenly (or not) over the modelling paste background. You can also use extra water in a spray bottle to disperse the colour on your page to achieve your desired look.

Using a fan brush loaded with colour tap gently on the end to add controlled splashes and drips of colour where desired. I also added at this stage a bit of black watercolour to my page.

As I was letting that dry, I painted or inked my chosen chipboard in black and then when that was dry I highlighted the flowers on the chipboard with Pebeo Prisme Fantasy Paint (Moonstone). I really love this paint, you can make the most gorgeous magical effects including opalescent, opaque, textured honeycomb on many different surfaces including chipboard!!

While my chipboard was drying I went back to my layout to complete the rest. I used a plate from the cupboard to draw circles on my page with a Black Sharpie Paint Marker, moving it slightly each time. I then grabbed my trusty grid texture stamp (Kaisercraft) and stamped around the circles and on the sides.

I then used a silver Montana Paint Marker to add silver dots on the sides, again trying to draw the eye towards the centre of the page.

After adding black thread under my photo and sticking the photo down, I added my other accents to the page. The chipboard, sequins, plasterers tape.

I moved the title around a little and finally settled on a central position.

Thanks for stopping by the blog, hope you enjoyed the tutorial, I look forward to seeing you around the world of WOW.

Don't forget to check out the Website for products and stockists and the new WOW Creations Facebook page. I would love to see your creations on there using all the gorgeous WOW products.

Scrap the Girls October Challenge

Hi Crafty friends

Just sharing my layout for the October Challenge over at the Scrap the Girls Challenge Blog.

Such a beautiful and feminine inspiration board.

The awesome moodboard -

Here are some close ups of the details.

and here is a small photo tutorial on how to achieve the multi-toned colours on the chipboard title and butterflies (which are from WOW - Words or Whatever) :

Grab your chipboard pieces (I deconstructed my butterfly chicken wire piece) and chosen paint supplies, ink, paintbrush and foam brush)

Using the paintbrush - paint the bottom half of your chipboard, I used a gorgeous metallic pink paint by Pebeo

Using the turquoise ink pad - ink the top half by using a dauber or even just the ink pad itself and join the two colours by scraping the foam brush from the middle to the top, scraping some of the pink paint over the top of the turquoise section of the chipboard. That creates your third colour, in this case a pinky purple.

I then used a paint brush to paint some glitter paint in the middle of the butterfly to add some glitz.

For some reason not the best photo but you get the gist :-)

Thanks for stopping by :-)

Kraft Plus October Challenge

Hi Crafty friends

I couldn't resist this month's Kraft Plus Challenge.

Inspired by nature is the theme, you have to use feathers plus any natural items on your page.

I've being wanting to scrap this photo that I took of a 'Scarlet Honeyeater' Bird at my parent's farm for a while now and whilst walking around I came across a dead branch from the Bottlebrush Trees that surround the farmhouse. I had the maybe insane idea to use it on a page, so I used the small branches to fashion a bird's nest as a frame around my photo and seed capsules. For the background I used water colour paints and pencils to draw a few branches of the Bottlebrush tree with blossoms and leaves. I also used white turkey feathers and hand dyed them with scarlet ink.

Let's not forget the WOW-Words or Whatever Chipboard that I used; Picture Perfect Word Title and Chicken Wire Panel.

Dont' forget to check out WOW - Words or Whatever Website and their new facebook page WOW Creations.

Here is the challenge moodboard and criteria.
